What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

EFT a simple and effective tool based on the meridian system, a system of energy pathways in the body, originating in Chinese Medicine thousands of years ago. It combines the principles of acupuncture (without the needles) and talking!

Along the meridians (energy pathways in the body), there are special points commonly used in acupuncture that can be stimulated to balance energy or remove blockages. Where there is an imbalance, there is a corresponding blockage in the flow of energy through the entire meridian or pathway that it’s linked to, which can contribute to emotional and physical symptoms. Gently tapping with the fingertip works to release the blockages and restore balance. Easy, right?

How does EFT work?

By restoring balance to the body’s energy system, EFT can relieve psychological stress and physical pain as well as allowing the body and mind to resume its natural healing abilities. Studies have shown that EFT is able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress, which often lead to physical pain and symptoms. Results of EFT can be shown with an EEG machine, proving that brainwave patterns respond to the tapping.

Studies have show that after EFT, there are reductions in cortisol, a primary stress hormone, and these reductions are accompanied by improvements in heart rate variability (HRV). With traditional forms of psychotherapy, people may spend years talking about life challenges, yet continue to feel their old emotional reactions intensely. EFT works by rebalancing the body’s energy system in relationship to beliefs, events and emotional issues. In other words, EFT is changing the reaction in the energy system which eliminates the “charge” in the body that accompanies that issue.

EFT triggers your body’s natural healing response and can often completely eliminate these negative emotions and stress, both comfortably and in far less time than traditional methods.
